Wolverhampton and District Model Engineering Society was founded in 1986 to promote and preserve the engineering skills, traditions and industrial heritage of the Wolverhampton area and to assist members in the construction of all types of engineering models. We are a charity, registered number 1073529.
We welcome everyone to join the society, Children under 16 may sign up as a junior member and when visiting the site must be under the supervision of a designated adult member. If you become a member you will be able to join in all aspects of our society. Come down for a couple of hours on a Sunday to help with public Running or setting up. On Tuesdays or Thursdays we meet for maintenance work, overhauling rolling stock, checking the track and maintenance of the site. You may feel you can help in other ways such as at our outside events across the West Midlands.
The Society facilities are located in the Lydiate building at Baggeridge Country Park (DY3 4HB) which is on the A463 between Wombourne and Sedgley, signposted from the A449 and 4 miles from Wolverhampton town centre.
We meet in the day time on Tuesdays, Thursdays and some Sundays to use the workshop, maintain the railway and of course chat with a drink of tea or coffee. We have monthly meetings in the Lydiate room at Baggeridge. Meetings are on the second Sunday of each month during the winter from 11:00 am. During the summer we meet on the second Friday of each month from 7:00am.
We operate the Baggeridge Miniature Railway for public passengers on many Summer Sunday afternoons. The railway provides a ground level circuit in 7 1/4" and 5" gauge of 677 metres. An oval raised track of 128 metres supports 5" and 3 1/2" gauge.
The railway can be booked for private groups such as birthday parties. For more information see Birthday Parties
We may sometimes be able to offer rides to other groups on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, particularly during school summer holidays.
